The 2nd Coordinative Meeting for IAAF/SINOPEC World Half Marathon Championships Nanning 2010 was held by its LOC on Sept. 8, at which Nanning’s Mayor Huang Fangfang stressed that the relevant departments of Nanning and the LOC should work hand in hand and make great efforts in preparing for the event to ensure its complete success, which can further improve Nanning’s image as well as its attraction and influence for its sound and rapid economic and social development.
Reports on the preparations made so far by all the departments of LOC were given, and solutions to some difficulties were settled after discussion.
IAAF/SINOPEC World Half Marathon Championships Nanning 2010 is scheduled to be held on Oct. 16, for which the preparations are progressing smoothly. On Sept. 29, the measurer(s) from the General Administration of Sports of China (GASC) will conduct course measurement so as to determine each km point, turning point and the exact locations for refreshment stations and to draw the cut lines on the turning points. On Oct. 10, the measurer(s) from GASC and from IAAF will conduct the final measurement.
Mayor Huang said that the successful event is important and necessary for Nanning. Under the guidance of IAAF, Nanning has made great efforts in its preparations the event and the blueprint has been clearly drawn now. The athletes from different countries will be attracted to Nanning during the event, so are the media, so it can be a showcase that can fully display the economic and social development progress Nanning has made and a stage that can completely demonstrate the enterprising spirit of Nanning people. It can not only advance exchange between Nanning and the rest of the world, but also accelerate the process of building Nanning into an internationalized city in this region.
Mayor Huang also required that the preparations for the event, as it is approaching, be more coordinative with clarified focuses as follows. First, working out a detailed security plan that takes the start and finish area as the key. Second, strictly following the instructions and requirements by IAAF in preparing for the event to meet the demands of the event for tangible and intangible facilities. In the meantime, it’s a good opportunity for Nanning to better equip itself for more large-scale national and international sports events in the future. Third, fully displaying Nanning’s image, including its clean and beautiful environment and Nanning people’s enthusiasm, unity and enterprising spirit. Fourth, enhancing Nanning’s service capability for large-scale events. Fifth, ensure the funds supply and reasonable use of these funds.
